The permafrost and active layer monitoring system is under constraction. In 2018 a permanent meteorological station was installed at 3570 m asl. The planned long-term ground temperature detection system will be working from 3500 to 5000 m asl in the remote source region of the Huasco River. The site represents the arid-semiarid transition zone.
